Edgar Randall (SEPTEMBER 26, 1957 – JANUARY 24, 2019)

Born in Williamsburg, Edgar Randall graduated from York High School in 1975. He furthered his education on a basketball scholarship to West Virginia State University (WVSU), graduating in 1979 with a degree in Physical Education and Safety. While at WVSU, Randall was an Academic All-American, a Conference Player of the Year, and was inducted into the West Virginia State University Hall of Fame. He married his college sweetheart, Belinda, in 1980, and had two sons. Randall and his family remained at WVSU until 1993, where he served as a coach for both the women’s and men’s basketball programs. In 1994, Randall and his family returned to Williamsburg when he was named the Athletic Director at Williamsburg Christian Academy. He served at WCA as AD, teacher and coach for over a decade. In later years, he also served at Toano Middle School,  Warhill High School, Lois Hornsby Middle School, and Bruton High School as a basketball coach. Coach Randall, as he was affectionately known to many, shared his basketball knowledge with hundreds of young people through The Flying Eagles Basketball Camp, which he founded and held two weeks each summer for 26 years (the last 14 of which in our gymnasium today)until the year prior to his passing.

For over 38 years, Coach Randall positively impacted thousands of lives through education and athletics. He was a disciple of Jesus Christ, humbly, diligently, and passionately serving as an ambassador of the Kingdom of God through his words and deeds. He loved God. He loved others. He served humanity.

The Edgar Randall Scholarship

In the summer of 1994, Randall founded the Flying Eagles Basketball Camp and held that camp yearly at Williamsburg Christian Academy after the current building opening until the summer prior to his passing in 2018. Edgar’s sons have continued the tradition of the Flying Eagles Basketball Camp, renaming the camp in honor of their father, the Edgar Randall Basketball Camp. In honor of a man who gave so much, Williamsburg Christian Academy, the Edgar Randall Basketball Camp and the Randall Family announced in 2019 the formation of a continuing scholarship fund in Edgar Randall’s name, the Edgar Randall Scholarship Fund.

Beginning in school year 2020-2021, the Edgar Randall Scholarship Committee has reviewed dozens of applications and has awarded a scholarship(s) to a student(s) who exemplify Edgar’s character.

While Edgar had many honorable and notable attributes, the following characteristics, as defined by his family and friends, truly embody who he was. Scholarship recipients align with these characteristics and display them in their school, community and faith group.

  1. Positive Attitude
  2. Strong Work Ethic
  3. Kind Heart
  4. Spirit of Generosity
  5. Unwavering Faith

Proverbs 22:1 tells us that, "A good name is more desirable than great riches; favor is better than silver and gold." Edgar was a man after God’s own heart and his name will always be remembered in this way.

Will you help us continue to honor Edgar Randall with this legacy in his name?
